EV Charging Connector Types Explained
The plug must match your vehicle or an approved adapter. Charging speed also depends on whether the connection supplies AC or DC power.
NACS (J3400)
AC and DC fast charging
The compact connector originally developed by Tesla and now standardized as SAE J3400. Vehicle and station support varies by model year and adapter availability.

DC fast charging
The Combined Charging System adds two DC pins below the J1772 interface and is widely used for fast charging by North American non-Tesla EVs.

DC fast charging
A DC fast-charging standard found primarily on earlier Nissan Leaf models and some other vehicles. New U.S. installations are less common.

Level 1 and Level 2 AC charging
The common North American AC charging connector. It is typically used at homes, workplaces, hotels, parking facilities, and destination chargers.
