EV Charging Speeds Explained
A station’s kW rating describes maximum power, not a guaranteed charging rate. Your vehicle and battery conditions determine how much of that power can actually be used.
Typically 3–19 kW
Level 2 charging
Best for overnight charging, workplaces, hotels, shopping, and longer destination stops. Most public Level 2 chargers use J1772 or an AC-capable NACS connector.

DC fast charging
Useful for road trips and shorter stops. Charging often slows as the battery fills, so peak power is usually seen only during part of a session.

Ultra-fast charging
Designed for rapid highway stops and vehicles with high DC input limits. A higher-rated charger can provide more headroom, but only compatible vehicles under suitable conditions can use its peak output.
